December 31st 2019 - off to B&Q for plywood
- new floor insulation (specialised stuff that won't go mouldy) - arrived on Dec 30th
- drawer runners that can cope with a heavy drawer extending by 700mm - due 7th Jan
- plywood for the flooring, upright panels etc to form the bed platform
- a mattress - delivered 6th Jan
- screws and stuff
I bought a load of insulation, a set of drawer runners on eBay, and headed to B&Q for 18mm plywood which I hoped wouldn't be so high as to foul the seat runners. Then much thinking about how to cut the new floor out .... answer, use the old carpet as a template!
Jan 1st 2020
When everyone else was sleeping off the night before, I was up relatively sharp and getting busy
| Big enough to be a camper? Two 8x4 sheets with plenty of room to spare! |
| Emptied and ready to strip the old stuff out |
The carpet lifted out, the insulation turned out to be stuck to the carpet - cool
I also removed the 2 row seat to make cleaning and measuring easier. The seat needed to be modified as well |
| old carpet as a template - I cut it in half to make it easier to handle |
| outer shape formed |
| perfect but for a few floor fittings making it wobble |
| Cut outs for the shock absorber top mounts - I'd rather not have to totally dismantle when I need new shocks |
| Holes drilled so I can use the rear seat mounting fixings to hold it all down |
All of this took about 5 hours at an easy pace and my luck held when I drilled the holes for the mounting bolts. I then realised they were an unusual thread and I had to order special M10x1.25 bolts at over £3.50 each!!
Enough for one day, my back was getting sore, and that's when mistakes happen. Knocking off time, more tomorrow
